at these stations and airports (at favourable prices
if booked before departure). And you'll find
the instructions below about how to reach the
gite are easy to follow -- including
for motorists a touristic route offering stunning views of
the Tarn valley and across the Corniche des
Cévennes to enjoy before arrival.
From the
centre of ANDUZE (5 minutes): Take
the Nimes road and follow this for 3-4 minutes until
you see the big builders' supply depot on your left
labelled Gedimat Manen. Chemin de Tavion is the tarred road
immediately opposite this depot's main entrance marked Tavion /
Tourette. Drive up past the house on your left and
keep on climbing round the sharp bend. After 345
metres from Gedimat you'll see our letterbox on your
right marked 345 WILLS, which indicates our driveway.
You have then arrived!
From NIMES airport (60 minutes): At the second roundabout when
leaving the airport area turn right, and then take your ticket
to join the motorway (A54), direction Nimes. After 5-7 minutes,
follow signs for Lyon but then, within a short distance, keep left
for Alès (shown in green). After the toll exit (credit cards
or cash), ignore the Centre ville sign but follow the Alès
direction (N106) that skirts round Nimes.
After about 25 km, you'll see Anduze indicated on
the right soon after where the road becomes dual
carriageway again. Then, on the ordinary road (D982),
for 300-400 m alongside the river Gardon, keep
following the Anduze signs for 13 km. After La Madeleine
you rejoin the Gardon and pass under a railway bridge.
Our turning is the next tarred road
on the left opposite the builders' depot
labelled Gedimat Manen, marked Tavion / Tourette.
Drive up this narrow road past the house on your left
and keep on climbing round the sharp bend. After 345
metres from Gedimat you'll see our letterbox on your right
marked 345 WILLS, which indicates our driveway. You have then
arrived!
From MONTPELLIER airport (just over 1
hour): Follow the signs for Montpellier and join
the dual-carriageway road for a few minutes before
turning right onto the motorway (A9) labelled for
Lyon/Nimes. Stay on this toll-free section for 5+
minutes and take the first exit (28) for Alès (shown in
green).
The Alès
signs then lead to a roundabout, a bridge over the motorway, and a
right turn that leads you, a few kilometres later with another
roundabout, into the small town of Castries. Keep following the
Alès direction to Sommières (on N110, 18 km), then look
for Quissac (D35, 18 km) and Anduze (still D35). After
15 km you arrive at La Madeleine, where you turn left
and soon run alongside the Gardon and then pass under
a railway bridge.
Our
turning is the next tarred road on the left
opposite the entrance of the builders' depot
labelled Gedimat Manen marked Tavion / Tourette. Drive up this narrow
road past the house on your left and keep on climbing
round the sharp bend. After 345 metres from Gedimat
you'll see our letterbox on your right marked
345 WILLS, which indicates our driveway. You have then
arrived!
From MARSEILLE airport (about 2
hours): Follow the autoroute signs (blue, 'A')
labelled for Avignon/Lyon. Ignore the turn-off for Aix/Nice, but take
the next one for Nimes/Montpellier. After traversing
part of the flat Camargue, you cross the Rhone at
Arles. Keep on towards Nimes, but leave the motorway
there (credit card or cash), heading for Alès
(shown in green) on N106.
After about 25 km, the road becomes dual carriageway
again, where you'll soon see Anduze indicated on the right.
Then, on the ordinary road (D986), for a few minutes alongside the
river Gardon, keep following the Anduze signs. Soon after La
Madeleine you rejoin the Gardon and pass under a railway bridge.
Our turning is the next tarred road
on theleft opposite the builders' depot labelled
Gedimat Manen marked Tavion / Tourette. Drive up this

From the
Orleans-Clermont Ferrand MOTORWAY A75 (about 2 hours): Go off at exit 39 (marked Mende/Nimes), dropping down to cross
the railway line into the Lot valley. Follow this road
(N88) upstream for 12 km to a right turn across the
river marked Chanac/Gorges du Tarn and then Ste Enimie
(D31).
This begins a wonderful
traffic-avoiding route touristique up and across the
limestone Causse plateau. Keep left for Ispagnac at the
top, and follow the Ispagnac signs until the road brings you to a
stunning view of the Tarn gorge. Go down and turn left at the bottom
(at Molines) for Ispagnac/Florac, then go on to join
N106 (for Nimes/Alès) and, after bypassing
Florac, turn right to follow the Corniche des
Cévennes road marked St Jean du Gard.
You then climb out of the Tarn valley onto one of
the most attractive 50-km drives across the Cévennes hills
which, after bypassing St Jean, leads you down the Gardon valley to
Anduze. And to reach the gite from there, see above.
From the
Rhone valley 'AUTOROUTE DU SOLEIL' A7 (about 1.5 hours): Take exit 19 for
Bollène and follow the signs for Pont St Esprit and
Bagnols-sur-Cèze (20 km) and Alès (50 km). On reaching
the bypass at Alès, follow the signs for
Montpellier and, in the middle of St Christol (the
first village out of Alès), turn right for
Anduze (16 km). Then see the directions from Anduze,
as above. |
